Chicago-based Sidewalk Chalk transcends genres with an innovative sound that blends elements of jazz, funk, hip-hop, and R&B.  The Chicago Tribune raves, “While many bands strive hard for originality, it’s unlikely that any of them could best Sidewalk Chalk.”

Sidewalk Chalk’s roots are firmly planted in Chicago where this eight member ensemble interweave their respective talents to lead the contemporary evolution of hip-hop, soul, and jazz – updating a sound first heralded in the era of Native Tongues. The group’s flexible arrangement allows them to seamlessly incorporate diverse elements: an MC; a female vocalist; a trio of keys, bass, and drums; a horn section with trombone and trumpet; and an award winning tap-dancer who describes his role in the group as that of “an instrumentalist…another piece, another color, in the picture being created”.

Their latest album, An Orchid Is Born, is “a speeding bullet ripe with heat and rhythm that speaks to mankind’s need to cheer in the darkest of moments and to choose love over inhumanity in all things.”
